The Ebling Library is pleased to announce that Christopher Hooper-Lane, MA, AHIP, has been named Director of Ebling Library.
Over the past year Chris served as the interim director of Ebling Library. In that position, Chris smoothly moved the library forward in several substantive ways. He guided the library components associated with the UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s (SMPH) accreditation process as well as SMPH’s recent curriculum transformation, and the Health Sciences Learning Center’s space and access enhancements. Chris also worked to develop new (and reinforce established) lines of communication internally with Ebling staff members as well as externally with UW campus libraries and academic institutions beyond our borders.
Chris has been a member of the Ebling Library staff since 2000 holding several leadership positions including the clinical sciences team lead, liaison to medical school and coordinator of library instruction, reference, and circulation services. Prior to his work at the UW, Chris was head librarian at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) and the supervisor of the document delivery and an engineering reference librarian at the Colorado School of Mines. Chris received an MA in Library Science and BS degrees in Education/Zoology here at the UW. Chris has also worked as a science teacher in the Madison School District.
Chris looks forward to working with a myriad of campus constituents, including the School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, the School of Medicine & Public Health, UW Hospital and Clinics, and the UW campus libraries. The information and communication landscape that Ebling Library serves is vast, both in-house and virtually. Chris will be collaborating with colleagues in a variety of initiatives to bring our online and print resources, instruction, staff, and services to those with constantly evolving resource and research needs.
