Student Job Descriptions
Below is a listing of the variety of jobs students do at the Ebling Library.
If you fill out an online application you will be considered for any openings
that occur.
HISTORICAL SERVICES & RESOURCES
Works with the historical collection, including pre-1913 materials. Some activities include item retrieval and shelving, preservation activities, answering directional questions and clerical work such as simple computer tasks.
DOCUMENT DELIVERY
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
Provides off-campus articles and loans for faculty, staff and students
of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Duties include processing
incoming documents, sending email notifications, and contacting
lenders regarding incorrect or incomplete documents.
LIBRARY EXPRESS
Provides scanned articles to patrons who request articles via
an online web-form. Duties include searching online catalogs, pulling volumes
from the library stacks, scanning articles with Adobe Acrobat, updating online
records and filing. In addition, students will be required to do some shelf-reading
and stack maintenance.
DOCUMENT DELIVERY FOR NON-AFFILIATES
Retrieves health-related materials from the Library's collections to send to
various individuals, hospitals, clinics, and libraries throughout Wisconsin and the rest
of the world. Uses computers to maintain records and billing system. Does
scanning, filing, faxing and prepares outgoing mail.
USER SERVICES ASSISTANT
CIRCULATION
Assists the public in locating and checking out Library materials. Staffs the
circulation desk. Checks in, sorts and shelves publications. Answers questions
and handles phone calls.
INFORMATION RESOURCES
Student employee duties include data entry of new serials, physical processing of new materials, typing call numbers, repairing damaged materials, processing serials for bindery, packing and unpacking bindery shipments, searching computer database for library materials, etc. May include some heavy lifting (30lbs). You MUST be able to type accurately and understand/follow difficult instructions.
