Ebling Library Policies

Computer Use

  • Use of University facilities and information technology is primarily restricted to activities that fulfill the University's missions of teaching, research, and public service. For more information, please see the Policy for Appropriate Use of UW-Madison Information Technology Resources.
  • Priority use for Ebling Library computers is given for those activities regardless of whether the user is affiliated with the University or not.
  • Users viewing material that is offensive or disruptive to others may be asked to stop.

Food & Drink

  • Small snacks and covered drinks (such as pop cans, coffee mugs, bottles) are acceptable.
  • Meals and messy snacks should be consumed outside the library.
  • Please remember to clean up after yourself and put trash and recyclables in their appropriate receptacles.

Group Study Rooms

  • Individuals studying alone in group study rooms may be asked to move if the room is needed by a group.
  • Find available rooms and place a reservation request using your UW NetID at: http://studyrooms.library.wisc.edu/.

Sound Levels

Cell Phones

  • Cell phone ring tones should be turned off in the library.
  • All are encouraged to use cell phones outside the library.
  • If you must take a cell phone call in the library, please speak softly and be brief.

Campus Phone

  • Limit to academic and work-related use.
  • Please speak softly and be brief.

Quiet/Silent Study

  • Sound carries well throughout the library, so please keep voices down at all times.
  • The entire third floor (except at the top of the stairs and in the study rooms) is quiet & silent study space, please limit conversation in third floor public areas.
