PubMed exercise

Managing your search results

After completing a search in PubMed, you can print, email and/or save your results.

Printing Search Results

  1. Select the desired Display format (e.g. Summary, Abstract, etc.).
  2. Choose the desired citations by clicking in the box to the left of the citation(s). Or leave all boxes unchecked and use the drop-down in the Show area to choose the number of citations you want to print (e.g., 5, 20, 100, etc.).
  3. Choose a Sort by option if desired (Author, Pub Date, Journal).
  4. Select the Text option from the Send to drop-down menu.
  5. Choose File from the browser menu and select Print.

Downloading and Saving Search Results

  1. Select the desired Display format (e.g. Summary, Abstract, etc.).
  2. Choose the desired citations by clicking in the box to the left of the citation(s). Or leave all boxes unchecked and use the drop-down in the Show area to choose the number of citations you want to save (e.g., 5, 20, 100, etc.).
  3. Choose a Sort by option if desired (Author, Pub Date, Journal).
  4. Select the File option from the Send to drop-down menu.
  5. Depending on your browser, you may be prompted for instructions (e.g. "What should Mozilla do with this file?"). If so, choose Save to Disk and click OK.
  6. Name your file and save it in an available location.

Emailing Citations

  1. Select the desired Display format (e.g. Summary, Abstract, etc.).
  2. Choose the desired citations by clicking in the box to the left of the citation(s). Or leave all boxes unchecked and use the drop-down in the Show area to choose the number of citations you want to email (e.g., 5, 20, 100, etc.).
  3. Choose a Sort by option if desired (Author, Pub Date, Journal).
  4. Select the E-mail option from the Send to drop-down menu.
  5. Fill in the e-mail address in the window and click Mail.
