4. Viewing your results and using "Find It" to locate
UW's online full-text or print holdings
Results in PubMed are listed below the search box. The default format is the Summary display listing author, title, and journal information. You cannot tell whether UW has the journal electronically or in print in the summary display.
The Find It tool allows you to search for full text and print holdings of the articles. You will need to change your display to Abstract or Citation in order to use Find It.
To change the display, change the drop-down menu next to "Display" from Summary to Abstract, AbstractPlus, or Citation, OR click on the author link to view the AbstractPlus for an individual article.
From the Abstract, AbstractPlus, or Citation view, click on the Find It button (circled above) to check UW’s holdings. The example below is the Find It window for the Dodick et. al. article from our sumatriptan search.

Important links are any that indicate FULL TEXT, along with the MadCat link (MadCat is UW's online catalog). The Full Text link will usually (but not always) bring you directly to the article. Occasionally, however, it will only lead you into the database that holds the article, and you will need to do additional “drilling” to get to your article
If we do not have the article electronically, use the MadCat link to check print holdings at Ebling or other campus libraries. In the MadCat record, you occasionally may see other full-text availability that is not listed in the PubMed record.
Library Express: If we do not have the article electronically or in print, you can use the Library Express link provided in the Find It window to request that we get the article from another library. You should NOT need to use Library Express for this assignment: everything you need should be available in print at Ebling, or online!
Other links provided within PubMed:
- Publisher's links: Beware! These links often ask for payment. Check Find It for availability. If we don't have the article at UW, we can get it from another library. You should never have to pay for an article.
- Free Full-Text. The article is available to anyone, not just UW users.
If you have any questions, call or come to the Ebling Library service desk!
