{"id":878,"date":"2020-07-31T01:02:23","date_gmt":"2020-07-31T01:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ebling.library.wisc.edu\/corpus-callosum\/?p=878"},"modified":"2020-08-03T20:37:06","modified_gmt":"2020-08-03T20:37:06","slug":"pandemic-panic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ebling.library.wisc.edu\/corpus-callosum\/pandemic-panic\/","title":{"rendered":"Pandemic Panic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Jennifer Bird<\/em><br \/>\n<em>School of Medicine and Public Health<\/em><br \/>\n<em>2020<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Poem<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I feel this world start falling<\/p>\n<p>Watch the people go insane<\/p>\n<p>Pray to gods I don&#8217;t believe in<\/p>\n<p>Ask if they still know my name.<\/p>\n<p>I see the stats are climbing<\/p>\n<p>Watch from windows, watch from screens,<\/p>\n<p>Wonder if my expertise is useful<\/p>\n<p>Or just useless little games.<\/p>\n<p>I worry when I wake<\/p>\n<p>I worry when I rest<\/p>\n<p>I worry I won&#8217;t do enough<\/p>\n<p>Or push the tides too fast.<\/p>\n<p>I feel my friends start slipping<\/p>\n<p>Cling to words that bind us tight<\/p>\n<p>Hope they hear my voice is calling<\/p>\n<p>Keep them safe and sound tonight.<\/p>\n<p>My chest is tight and panicked<\/p>\n<p>My head is clouded, sore<\/p>\n<p>Want to lie and rest forever<\/p>\n<p>Want to feel relief by dawn.<\/p>\n<p>I know I cannot save this world<\/p>\n<p>Can barely save myself<\/p>\n<p>I just want to know there&#8217;s hope<\/p>\n<p>Know there&#8217;s beauty in this hell.<\/p>\n<p>I gasp for air, I close my eyes<\/p>\n<p>But there&#8217;s not much I can do<\/p>\n<p>Wait for calm to fill my lungs<\/p>\n<p>Wait for time to heal the wounds.<\/p>\n<p>The battles that we fight today<\/p>\n<p>Are wars to win tomorrow<\/p>\n<p>But the madness ebbs and flows<\/p>\n<p>Hurts us more than we could know.<\/p>\n<p>So wait with me awhile<\/p>\n<p>Lie and tell me it&#8217;s okay<\/p>\n<p>We can&#8217;t afford to lose our minds<\/p>\n<p>Until this goes away.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jennifer Bird School of Medicine and Public Health 2020 Poem &nbsp; I feel this world start falling Watch the people go insane Pray to gods I don&#8217;t believe in Ask if they still know my name.
