Historical Exhibition in conjunction with "Go Big Read" In Defense of Food book event. Themes include include the history of the food pyramid, the story of Victory Gardens, the confusion inherent in diet advice, the "voice of authority" in cookbooks and nutrition literature, the media's influence of food products, and history of the food pyramid.

Staying afloat with current biomedical research can be overwhelming. Imagine that you could have one single list of articles from your favorite journals, newspapers, web sites, and blogs, which you could peruse at your leisure. This hands-on workshop is intended to provide a fun and informative introduction to RSS, which make it easy to stay up-to-date with new research and hot topics. Hands-on practice setting up and using your own Google Reader account is included.

This exhibition honors the lives and achievements of women in medicine. Women physicians have excelled in many diverse medical careers. Some have advanced the field of surgery by developing innovative procedures. Some have won the Nobel prize. Others have brought new attention to the health and well-being of children. Many have reemphasized the art of healing and the roles of culture and spirituality in medicine. A schedule of complementary lectures to be determined. Exhibition will be located in the HSLC Atrium. African Americans have always practiced medicine, whether as physicians, healers, midwives, or "root doctors." The journey of the African American physician from pre-Civil War to modern day America has been a challenging one. Early black pioneer physicians not only became skilled practitioners, they became trailblazers and educators paving the way for future physicians, surgeons, and nurses, and opening doors to better health care for the African American community.
