Who can walk in and use Ebling Library resources?

We are open to and serve the public.

How DO I get to the Ebling Library from the UW hospital and clinics?

What if I can't come to the library physically?

You can call or email us. Please contact us.

How do I get my badge activated?

If your badge does not work, bring it to either the HSLC Security Office, 1355 HSLC, 262-3058 or the UWHC/CSC Security Office, E6-206, 263-7065 to have it activated.

How do I reserve a group study room?

Find available rooms and place a reservation request using your UW NetID at: http://studyrooms.library.wisc.edu/.

May I have food or drink in the library?

Drinks in covered containers are fine in the library, however we ask that you refrain from eating in the library. The HSLC atrium is a smashing good place to grab a quick snack, though!

do you have a lost and found?

Yes, we do. Our Lost and Found serves the entire building, so if you've lost something in the HSLC, be sure to stop by our service desk, or call us at (608) 262-2020. Valuable items are stored in a safe and are generally not retrievable after 4:30 PM and on weekends.

How do I contact the University Book Store?

Where is the Ebling Symposium Center?

You'll find the The Ebling Symposium Center at Room 1220 in the Microbial Sciences Building, 1550 Linden Drive. This 450-seat auditorium shares the name of the Ebling Library, but is not affiliated with the Health Sciences Learning Center in any way. How do I get to electronic resources when I'm off campus?

If you're affiliated with UW-Madison you can use UW NetID to gain access to resources remotely using the campus libraries' proxy service. See Off-campus Online Access for more information about accessing licensed library resources from off campus.

On March 5th, 2007, the UW-Madison Library system ended the use of the 11 digit UW ID for off campus access to licensed, online resources such as electronic journals and databases. Instead, you must now use your NetID to access these resources remotely. For more information about this change and the NetID, see UW Photo ID, NetID & Remote/EZProxy Access.

How do i activate my netid?

How do I find out where a journal is located on campus?

The most authoritative listing is available using MadCat, the campus libraries' online catalog. But feel free to contact us and we'll be glad to check for you.

why can't I find any articles I want in Madcat ?

MadCat is the campus catalog of owned books, videos, conference proceedings, journals, etc. It does not list journal articles. You'll need to look in a database such as PubMed for articles.

Can I check out a journal?

Ebling Library does not check out print journals. You may photocopy ($.10) or scan (free) the articles you need. A complete list of campus libraries and their circulation policies as well as loan periods is available at http://www.library.wisc.edu/loan-periods/.

do you offer alternatives to photocopying?

Yes, we do. All our copy centers have a special photocopier that is also a scanner. You may scan a document and have the PDF sent to your email. This is a free service.

How do I find my lost scanned material?

If you think you addressed it to an invalid email address, email eblinghelp at library.wisc.edu. They may be able to find it.

How can I obtain a high resolution/color image of a print document?

Although the scanners in the copy centers are fine for average jobs, you'll want to use one of our free, flat bed scanners for images you need for presentations, publications, etc. Just bring in a flash drive or use MyWebspace to save the image as emailing might not be suitable for a large file.

The copier/scanner/computer I'm trying to use in the library doesn't work. who should I contact ?

Feel free to contact the first Ebling Library staff member that you find. They will seek assistance from the second floor Service Desk. Or go to the Service Desk and ask for help yourself.

How do I get an article that's not available on campus?

You have a number of options available, depending on your needs and your affiliation with UW-Madison. Check out our listing of Document Delivery Services for Ebling Library users.

How do I use my madcat account?

Your MadCat account allows you to check on and renew books you have checked out, the status of recalls, any fine or fee information and more. Go to the MyMadCat Account page to log in.

How can I obtain a Ph.D. dissertation or master's thesis not owned at UW-Madison?

If you would like to borrow a Ph.D. dissertation or master's thesis not owned at UW-Madison, please submit a request in WorldCat or Library Express.

How can I renew a Library Express (Interlibrary Loan) book, AV or microfilm that was obtained by the Ebling Library?

To renew a Library Express (Interlibrary Loan) book, AV or microfilm that was obtained by the Ebling Library, please contact the Ebling Library Express (Interlibrary Loan) Department at eblingill at library.wisc.edu or (608) 262-6583. We are able to grant renewals for most interlibrary loan items.

You will not be able to renew interlibrary loan items through your My MadCat Account.

Is there a notary public in the library?

Sorry, no, we do not have a notary public, but the University has two campus offices that provide limited notary public services. The notary at Student Financial Services, located at 432 N. Murray St., will notarize financial aid forms, and the notary at the registrar's office, at 21 N. Park St., will notarize university-related documents and absentee ballots.

School districts, banks and U.S. Postal Offices generally have a notary available. Other options include a clerk or deputy clerk of a court of record, a court commissioner, a register or deputy register of deeds, a judge, or a county or deputy county clerk. You may also find notary public services listed in the yellow pages of your telephone book.

How do I recommend a book or journal for purchase?

How do I Find Journal Impact Factors?

Journal Citation Reports (part of ISI Web of Knowledge) provides impact factors for over 4,500 scientific journals. Also, check out our Journal Impact Factor guide.

Due to their relative newness, many BioMed Central titles do not yet have Impact Factors. BioMed Central provides unofficial (projected) impact factors for their titles. See this listing of official and unofficial Impact Factors for BioMed Central Journals.

How do I Find a Specific Article?

If you know the title of the journal for the article you are looking for, use Find It. Find It does require a journal title or ISSN, so f you have only partial citation information, use the PubMed single citation matcher.

How do I Submit/Access ONLINE Course Reserves?

To submit reserves, use our Reserves Requests Form. Online course reserves are generally accessed through My UW. For more help, see Course Reserves.

How do I Cite This Resource?

See Citation Management for Style Manuals online and in print, help with RefWorks and EndNote, and more. Note that many style guides, such as the AMA Manual of Style, are not available online. Ask a Librarian for more help.
