Daniel Boone

The image of Daniel Boone as a fierce fighter and hero of the unsettled lands of the wilderness is an icon many young children (especially boys) could easily identify. "The microbes must be fought to-day, as the bears and wolves were fought a hundred and fifty years ago," Winslow says in the caption. What boy wouldn't want to emulate his hero and fight off the newest form of an invading enemy?
