Bibliotheca Anatomica
Daniel Le Clerc
1685

Daniel Le Clerc is considered one of the first great
medical historians. His books are compendiums of writings by others, which provide an overview of important ideas and innovations. Bibliotheca Anatomica is a compilation of writings about anatomy which Le Clerc gathered with Jacob Manget.

The engraved title-page displayed here preceeds the formal title-page shown at right, and introduces the subject matter of the book in a dramatic and captivating manner. A dissection, the method for obtaining anatomical knowledge, takes place in a grand and historic setting. The full-page engraving was
printed from a copper plate.
