Cours D ’Operations de Chirurgie
Pierre Dionis
1714

Dionis’ book is an overview of surgical procedures in the early eighteenth century. Dionis was a demonstrator at the Jardin du Roi, a premier teaching institution at the time. His textbook is one of the best summaries of current practices that has survived. The book features an engraving depicting a surgical amphitheatre, and also a view of the Jardin du Roi, which was originally a sixteenth century botanical garden in Paris. The Paris school of medicine opened an anatomical theatre in the building, although the theatre depicted in the frontispiece is at the Company of Saint-Come.
