Liber Teisir, sive rectificatio medicationis et regiminis, Avenzoar, 1490-1491. Former Middleton Health Sciences Library director Helen Crawford described Richardson's acquisition of this volume: "When Dr. Richardson was a young resident in pathology, he took occasion to visit the Boston Medical Library while attending a meeting in Boston. Mr. Henry Ballard, the librarian, let him examine some volumes from this distinguished collection of early works, and on his return the next day, showed him some duplicates. Among them was a 1490 Avenzoar on therapeutics. Dr. Richardson said yes, he would like to buy it but could not afford to. 'Could you afford $4.00?' said the librarian." Although the volume is lacking some leaves, this experience encouraged Richardson's collecting. |
