Medical Dissertations

Medical Dissertations, 1749-1839. The library acquired some 3,200 dissertations, many of which contain theses written by prominent physicians such as Benjamin Rush. Edinburgh was a center for medical study during the years these dissertations cover, and the Royal Medical Society attracted many members who were studying in the city. This image is of a handwritten index to the papers in a volume from 1783.
