Granting agency: Southwest Wisconsin Area Health Education Center

Date: October 1, 1997 - September 29, 1998

Award amount: $33,499

Goal(s) of the Project:

The purpose of this project is to design an educational infrastructure to support interactive curriculum and continuing education activities with preceptors and students of preceptors affiliated with University of Wisconsin at Madison (UWM) Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy. Volunteer precepotrs provide UWM students with the opportunity to gain vital clinical experience at practice sites throughout the state. To maintain continuity and alleviate isolation, core medical and pharmacy interactive, cross-platform curricula are being developed together with the state's AHEC (Area Health Education Center) programs. People coalitions, upgraded connectivity, expanded access to information resources, and coordinated training are required to establish a fully-functional network from a distance education perspective. Benefits to preceptors include improved access to UWM information resources, on-site training and consultation to implement a standard platform, and the opportunity to interact with UW faculty and information specialists. An improved infrastructure will also make it possible to provide continuing education in new an innovative ways.
