Title: Southwest Wisconsin Health Information Access Project

Granting Agency: Southwest Wisconsin Area Health Education Center, Inc., MODAHEC2-2-00

Date: October 1, 1999 - September 30, 2000

Award Amount: $15,410

Goal(s) of the Project

The UW-Health Sciences Libraries agrees to provide library instructors to teach continuing education courses designed to respond to the information needs of the health care practitioners in Wisconsin's Southwest AHEC. The courses are intended to introduce practitioners to a variety of electronic resources that are available to them through the HSL and the Internet.

The courses will consist of demonstrations and training at the 12 specified sites. Instructional design of the training sessions will include:

" brief demonstrations of one to two hours at nine of the sites
" hands-on instruction (2 - 3 hours) at three centrally-located sites.

All attendees will receive a packet of relevant information pertaining to the resources being introduced. Librarians also intend to collect data on practitioners who attend sessions in order to evaluate the use and benefits of information resources to the practitioners in the SW-AHEC.

The goal of this contract is to reach at least 50 practitioners in the SW-AHEC region. Success will be determined by the number of participants, the amount of information passed on to others, and the interest of the participants in learning more about health information resources. Data will be collected through pre- and post-testing of the participants. These measurements will be used to aid the HSL in identifying those information resources of interest, use and need to its patrons.
