In addition, PubMed provides access and links to the integrated molecular biology databases maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). These databases contain DNA and protein sequences, 3-D protein structure data, population study data sets, and assemblies of complete genomes in an integrated system. Additional NLM bibliographic databases, such as AIDSLINE, are being added to PubMed. -
Biological Abstracts
The Biological Abstracts database indexes 4,200 journals from over 100 countries with over11 million records back to 1969. The subject matter covers anatomy, bacteriology, behavioral sciences, bioengineering, biotechnology, cell biology, clinical medicine, genetics, immunology, microbiology, nutrition, parasitology, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, radiation and systematic biology, toxicology, virology, and zoology. -
Biotechnology & Bioengineering Abstracts

Patent
- United States Patent & Trademark Office
USPTO provides full access to issued US patents starting in 1790 to the present and to patent applications starting in 2001. The USPTO provides full access to active and inactive trademarks that are searchable using the Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS). You can also use the site to search the Trademark Document Retrieval (TDR) system. Through TDR, you can view and download any or all documents contained in the electronic file wrapper of almost all pending trademark applications, as well as many registrations. -
esp@cenet
esp@cenet is the gateway to searching Europe's network of patent databases. The site provides access to free access to more than 60 million patent documents from all over the world containing information about inventions and technical development from 1836 to the present. -
Patent Abstracts of Japan
Using the PAJ service, you can retrieve the Patent Abstracts of Japan (PAJ) published since 1976 onward by keywords, publication numbers, and other methods. PAJ from January 1990(in application) onward includes the legal status information as well. PAJ data can vary from the official gazette of the Japan Patent Office so it is recommended that additional resources are used when needed. It is estimated that Japan holds nearly 25% of the world's patents. -
Patent Lens
This site provides access to nearly 10 million patents, with links to PDFs from the U.S., Europe, Australia and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). A separate search function is available for finding sequences in patents. -
National Institutes of Health, Office of Technology Transfer
The NIH Office of Technology Transfer evaluates, protects, markets, licenses, monitors, and manages the wide range of NIH and FDA discoveries, inventions, and other intellectual property. They oversee patent prosecution and negotiate and monitor licensing agreements. OTT performs similar functions for patenting and licensing activities for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). -
World Intellectual Property Organization
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It is dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible international intellectual property (IP) system, which rewards creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest. WIPO provides a gateway, called PatentScope, which enables you to do full-text search in over 1.6 million published international patent applications from the first publication in 1978. -
Google Patents
Google Patent Search covers the entire collection of issued patents and millions of patent application made available by the USPTO from patents issued in the 1790s through those most recently issued in the past few months. To date, the USPTO has made available approximately 7 million patents and over a million patent applications.

Hoovers is a business information resource to research specific companies, business people, and industries. NOTE: Access is limited to campus users. Use the link from the E-Resources page to access. -
LexisNexis Academic
LexisNexis Academic Universe is an online service composed of approximately 5,000 legal, news, reference, and business sources, most full text. It includes international and U.S. newspapers, ethnic and regional news sources, magazines, wire services, newsletters, trade journals, SEC filings, company and industry analyst reports, and broadcast transcripts. -
Google Finance
Google's Finance pages provide a summary of company information, market trends, business news, and information on world markets. Information is not as robust as subscribed to resources but it provides a nice overview and it is updated regularly.
Genetic and Chemical
- National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)
NCBI is a suite of resources developed by the National Library of Medicine for a number of nucleotide and genome-specific databases. The site also provides a number of tools for data mining, sequence analysis, and 3-D structure display. -
BioBase Knowledge Library
BioBase Knowledge library provides access to the foremost integrated knowledge resource containing up-to-date information for genes, the proteins they encode, and the diseases with which they are associated. With the BKL you will be able to determine how genes are regulated, which promoters are bound by which transcription factors, which signal transduction events proteins take part in, which biomarkers are associated with which disease, and much more. -
ENZYME
ENZYME is a repository of information relative to the nomenclature of enzymes. It is primarily based on the recommendations of the Nomenclature Committee of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) and it describes each type of characterized enzyme for which an EC (Enzyme Commission) number has been provided. There are many other proteomic databases available from the home site of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. -
Interpro
InterPro is a database of protein families, domains, regions, repeats and sites in which identifiable features found in known proteins can be applied to new protein sequences. Interpro is one of many resources available from the European Bioinformatics Institute. -
WorldWide Protein Data Bank
The Worldwide Protein Data Bank (wwPDB) consists of organizations that act as deposition, data processing and distribution centers for PDB data. The mission of the wwPDB is to maintain a single Protein Data Bank Archive of macromolecular structural data that is freely and publicly available to the global community. -
