Scope

Occupational Therapy is the field concerned with utilizing craft or work activities in the rehabilitation of patients. Occupational therapy can also refer to the activities themselves.

Physical Therapy is the field concerned with the physical aspects of a medical illness and specializes in the use of exercise and perhaps assistive devices to help patients restore or facilitate normal function of musculoskeletal, neurological or cardiopulmonary conditions.

Rehabilitation Therapy is a more extensive combination of various therapeutic modalities to help return patients to an optimal functioning level who are recovering from a wide range of surgeries, illnesses, injuries and ongoing medical conditions. Rehabilitation Therapy may include any or all techniques employed in occupational therapy, physical therapy, hand therapy, speech and language therapies, cardiotherapy, or other allied health therapies.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text also contains searchable cited references for more than 1,155 journals and provides full text for hundreds of journals, plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. PDF backfiles to 1937 are also included.
  • PubMed [free version of MEDLINE] Spotlight on PubMed
    A National Library of Medicine free searching interface for the MEDLINE database. It provides citations and abstracts of research articles along with links to the full-text of articles through Find It for authorized UW users.
  • OTSeeker
    Contains abstracts of systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials relevant to occupational therapy. Trials have been critically appraised and rated to assist you to evaluate their validity and interpretability.These ratings will help you to judge the quality and usefulness of trials for informing clinical interventions. In one database, OTSeeker provides you with fast and easy access to trials from a wide range of sources.
  • PEDro [Physiotherapy Evidence Database]
    The database was developed to give rapid access to bibliographic details and abstracts of randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy. Most trials on the database have been rated for quality to help you quickly discriminate between trials likely to be valid and interpretable, and those which are not.
  • SPORTDiscus
    Provides citations and abstracts of books and journal articles in all areas of sport including: recreation, exercise physiology, sports medicine, coaching, physical fitness, psychology, history, sociology, training, and conditioning. 70% of the database consists of articles.
  • PsycINFO
    Contains citations and abstracts of global literature in psychology and related subjects. Lists citations from more than 1300 journal titles. Also contains references to books and book chapters dating from 1987 to the present. Approximately 50% of the articles selected are published outside the United States; 10% are in a language other than English.
  • ERIC [Educational Resources Information Center]
    Provides citations and abstracts of literature in education and related fields. Subjects include occupational therapy, physical therapy, active learning, child development, art therapy, play therapy, music therapy, and ounseling and testing.
