Spotlight on
What is it?
CINAHL Plus with Full Text is a comprehensive source of full text for nursing & allied health journals, directly providing online full text through links within the database, or through the FIND IT button. This database also provides full text for 220 books/monographs. With full text coverage dating back to 1937, CINAHL Plus is the definitive research tool for all areas of nursing, allied health, and complementary and alternative therapies literature. It also has practice acts, standards of professional practice, dissertations, evidence-based care information, educational software and continuing education modules, and audiovisual materials with an emphasis in clinical nursing, and general consumer health information.
Are there other products like CINAHL Plus?
Information about nursing, and some allied health, and alternative and complimentary clinical practice and therapies may be found in PubMed or in EMBASE (Excerpta Medica), but CINAHL is the primary database which indexes the literature of those health care areas.
Is there anything unique or advantageous about it?
CINAHL displays all results by date, but has options to filter and sort results by Periodicals, Books, Continuing Education Units (CEUs), Evidence-Based Care Sheets, Quick Lessons, Research Instruments, and Search Strategies. The EBSCO interface also allows you to display results in a Visual Search format. Additionally, it allows you to display citations in different citation styles (e.g., AMA, APA, Chicago, MLA, or Vancouver), stay up to date on topics using RSS and email alerts, save searches in a personalized folder, and to directly export search results to RefWorks, EndNote, or other bibliographic citation management programs.
Searching Tips
Through the EBSCO interface, CINAHL Plus can be searched using either keywords or CINAHL subject headings. Searching options and limits can be set by scrolling down from the query entry boxes and checking options or limits appearing in the screen below. CINAHL Plus search specific help can be accessed by clicking on the icon that appears next to the "search" "clear" buttons. If you wish to construct a subject heading search either click on the "CINAHL HEADINGS" in the blue bar across the top of the page, or enter your keyword terms and check the "Suggest Subject Terms" box above the query box and press the blue "search" button. For general EBSCO database help, click on "Help" at the right of the blue bar at the top of the screen.
You can combine search sets or delete them from the "History/ Alerts" page. CINAHL Plus also allows you to save searches and allows you to set up a (free) account from which you may retrieve your search. This account also allows you to set your preferences for searching and saving as well as allowing access from off campus.
Who Can Use It?
UW affiliated students, faculty, and staff are eligible to use this resource from either on or off campus. Non-affiliated persons can search a subset of CINAHL Plus through BadgerLink - http://www.badgerlink.net/
