PLoS Medicine no longer to publish research studies that receive funding from tobacco companies.

In an editorial published in the February 23, 2010 edition of PloS Medicine, the journal announces a “New Policy on Tobacco Papers.” Citing concern about “the industry’s long-standing attempts to distort the science of and deflect attention away from the harmful effects of smoking” as well as other issues, the editors state that they will no longer consider papers in which full or partial support for the study or researchers derives from tobacco money.
