{"id":1077,"date":"2020-12-09T13:24:24","date_gmt":"2020-12-09T13:24:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ebling.library.wisc.edu\/corpus-callosum\/?p=1077"},"modified":"2020-12-14T16:18:26","modified_gmt":"2020-12-14T16:18:26","slug":"the-last-seven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebling.library.wisc.edu\/corpus-callosum\/the-last-seven\/","title":{"rendered":"The Last Seven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Anna Shaul<br \/>\nSchool of Nursing<br \/>\n2020<br \/>\nPoem<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Seven minutes.<br \/>\nSeven minutes of pure stillness, the neurons of the body firing less and less until the brain is no longer all-knowing.<br \/>\nSeven minutes of paralysis; the only piece clinging on to reality is my inner persona.<br \/>\nIs it comforting to have these seven minutes of reflection or is it terrifying, I don\u2019t know.<br \/>\nWhen my eyes no longer see, I feel nothing, touch nothing, sense nothing.<br \/>\nOnly the mystery of a mind at<br \/>\nthe end of its time.<\/p>\n<p>What was it all for:<br \/>\nthe years of study,<br \/>\nthe lost sleep,<br \/>\nthe laughter that bubbles until the stomach cramps,<br \/>\nthe sheer pain of loss and absence.<\/p>\n<p>What was the point, if our minds, so complex and constantly collecting more data than we can ever digest, if we\u2019re going to get seven minutes of quiet and reflection before the neurons never fire again, before the brain never thinks again.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I will see light or maybe darkness, my worst fear or my greatest desires.<br \/>\nThose seven minutes though, before my mind turns off for good, will be the ones I listen to the most.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anna Shaul School of Nursing 2020 Poem &nbsp; Seven minutes.
