Van Sluijs<\/em><br \/>\n<em>School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Pediatrics<\/em><br \/>\n<em>2019<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Poem<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because you insist on loving so desperately<br \/>\nthis always transient beauty\u2014<br \/>\ntulip masses breaking into glorious<br \/>\npetaled cups, great phalanxes of daffodils<br \/>\nwaving sunny saffron heads and frilled trumpet throats<br \/>\n(as in those famous lines, two hundred years ago),<br \/>\ndelicate trout lilies unfurling<br \/>\nabove modest mottled leaves, and early<br \/>\non a week of warm winds, magnolia\u2019s emergent<br \/>\nmilky wings, fragrant, fragile and certain to succumb\u2014<br \/>\nbecause you will cry, forgetting your place,<br \/>\nthe place of every other earthly thing, I enter<br \/>\nabruptly, unheralded,<br \/>\nsublime sovereign<br \/>\nfor these few hours.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sharon M.
