Mapes<br \/>\nSchool of Medicine and Public Health<br \/>\n2025<br \/>\nPoem<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nDays after the deep freeze,<\/p>\n<p>we watched a snowdrop try to bloom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Its petals were sheer and brittle,<\/p>\n<p>its flower open, but barely.<\/p>\n<p>Wind-beaten, tired, guarded\u2014<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I knew the feeling.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The cold pinched color<\/p>\n<p>back into my cheeks, but<\/p>\n<p>our arms did the heavy lifting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We pulled each other close,<\/p>\n<p>and held one another tightly<\/p>\n<p>against the growing chill,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>more determined than ever<\/p>\n<p>to bloom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A.C.
