\nThey said to wait a year.
\nThat you would make your way back to us.
\nThat you were strong (which we already knew).
\nThat miracles happen (it\u2019s true).
\nThat the brain and body were magic.
\nThat we could learn to wait.
\nSo we waited<\/p>\n

We sat, and we read, and we drove for hours to make our way to you.
\nWe learned that we were strong (and you were brave).
\nWe met people who could do magic (though they were only human,
\n                             after all).<\/p>\n

We waited together.
\nAnd we waited alone.
\nAnd we learned to live with silence.<\/p>\n

A year passed.
\nPeople moved on. Children grew. Expectations shifted.<\/p>\n

And still we wait.
\nI drive the same routes we drove.
\nI walk the same paths we walked.
\nI do all the things we used to do together
\nin all the places where you used to be
\nI do them alone.
\nAnd still I wait.<\/p>\n
