Representation matters, as first-year Nigerian medical student Chidiebere Ibe has shown with his medical illustrations. His illustration of a Black woman and fetus went viral in late 2021, and illuminated for many the disparities and biases in medical illustrations, usually found in textbooks. His illustrations will be published in a forthcoming book, the revised edition of Mind the Gap: A clinical handbook of signs and symptoms in Black and Brown Skin.
