Have you ever wondered what to do with your family photo albums or letters from loved ones? How to digitize slides or catalog a personal collection? Join Curator and History of Health Sciences Librarian Hannah Swan for a layperson’s guide to managing personal papers, photographs, and printed collections. Swan will share her expertise both as an archives and library professional and as a personal collector. (She was the 2022 recipient of the National U.K. Book Collecting Prize for her personal collection of books and ephemera.) The webinar will look at how cataloging, digitization, and basic preservation work undertaken at a library can be scaled down for the family historian or hobbyist collector.
If you require any accessibility accommodations to attend or participate in this event, please let us know by emailing hannah.swan@wisc.edu with the subject “Preservation 101.” Requests for sign-language interpreters, real-time captioning, Braille or electronic documents should be made at least two weeks before the event. We will attempt to fulfill requests made after this date but cannot guarantee they will be met.
Current UW students, staff, and faculty will be given preference. Community members and emerit faculty and staff may register for a waitlist and will be notified if space is still available.
