Scopus: A Database for Everyone

Scopus is reportedly “the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources”. Half of the Scopus content comes from outside the U.S., making its over 65 million citations an essential destination for resources in all disciplines such as medical, scientific, technical, social sciences, arts and humanities.  Scopus includes all of the journals indexed in Embase, Compendex (Engineering), and MEDLINE. Embase is a very large global biomedical database that covers nearly 3000 journals not included in MEDLINE.

Scopus is especially robust if you are looking for drug literature. Even if you’ve searched in PubMed, Scopus gives you a more comprehensive return when searching for information about pharmaceuticals or medical devices.

The Scopus database also provides powerful citation analysis tools for articles, authors, institutions and journal metrics.

Alternatively, access Scopus from Ebling’s Top Databases column from on and off campus (for those with a NetID).
