Ebling’s Mary Hitchcock for the Gold!

If there was an Olympic medal for illuminating, comprehensive library research, Ebling’s Senior Academic Librarian, Mary Hitchcock would get the gold.

When Reardon needed to sort through more than 50,000 pieces of scientific literature to help write a consensus statement on the mental health of Olympic athletes for the IOC, she knew exactly where to turn: Ebling Library.  The collaboration between Reardon (and other contributors) and Hitchcock, resulted in a comprehensive report for the International Olympic Committee.

This summer’s Tokyo Olympics and the media attention on athletes like Simon Biles, Noah Lyles, Raven Saunders and Sam Mikulak is timely evidence that the mental health of athletes is a critical as their physical well being.

As Hitchcock suggested, “Everyone seems to shy away from talking about mental health because of the stigma attached. Hopefully, this work has humanized the subject, brought light to these hidden topics, and can offer guidance.”
